Viral Hepatitis is a liver infection caused by the Hepatitis B Virus. Similar to Hep C, Hep B is spread when someone comes in contact with the blood or other specific body fluids of an infected person. However, Hepatitis B is different in that it is most frequently transmitted to newborns during childbirth and is also more easily spread during sexual intercourse. Hepatitis B is commonly found among the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community.
Asians and Pacific Islanders are disproportionately affected by chronic hepatitis B. In the United States, 1 in 12 Asian Americans is chronically infected with hepatitis B in comparison to 1 in 1,000 non-Hispanic Whites.
